Reading Incentive Programs

The LMC plans for a variety of school-wide reading incentive programs. The activities listed below serve to reinforce the enjoyment of reading and encourage reading throughout the year, and promoting lifelong reading for pleasure. Current programs in place are:

  • Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader (AR) is a reading incentive program for 1st graders based upon teacher recommendation.  The program is designed to have students read a book from cover to cover, take a five, ten, or fifteen question quiz on a classroom or LMC computer. Depending on how well a student scores on the quiz, students receive points. Teachers have classroom reward systems set up to motivate the first graders in reading independence and basic comprehension skills.  Each student strives to meet a point goal set between the teacher and the student. We encouraged children to choose AR books that are at their reading level ("just right books") to both challenge and support quality reading habits. Currently, we do not have a way to view the list of books that are available to students for quizzes.

  • Kane County Cougars: Ozzie's Reading Club
Ozzie’s Reading Club incentive program will begin after winter break and will run for a period of a few weeks.  After meeting a set reading goal, students will receive a free ticket voucher.  Parents will have the opportunity to purchase additional tickets at a later date.  Our school game is always scheduled for the spring before school ends.  Actual documents will sent home from the "youngest or only student" list. Additional documents will be available for download from this website for additional children participating.

  • Six Flags Read to Succeed Program
This reading incentive program will begin after winter break and will run for a period of a few weeks.  After meeting a set reading goal, students will receive a free ticket to use at the theme park during set dates during the summer of 2016.  These dates are set by the Six Flags.  Tickets are usually sent home near the end of the school year.

  • Summer Reading Programs
Summer reading programs will be offered to students in grade kindergarten through 5th grade. Students are given information about these programs as we get closer to the closing of the school year in May/June.
