Peterson Elementary School

Indian Prairie School District 204

PTA

Welcome to PTA!

WHAT IS the PTA?
Peterson PTA is the local unit of the national Parent Teacher Association. We are a membership organization open to parents/guardians, teachers, relatives, and community members who support the PTA Mission:

·A powerful voice for all children
·A strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child

WHAT DOES the PTA DO?
Peterson PTA organizes and funds activities and programs that benefit all Peterson students and families, such as:

Beginning of the Year Welcome
         Monster Mash Bash,
         Daddy Daughter Dance,
         STEM Science Fair,
         Mother / Son Event,
         Dads and Donuts,
         Muffins with Moms,
         and much more.

Why Join Peterson PTA?

·       It will benefit your child! Research shows that regardless of income or background, when parents are involved at school students are more likely to earn higher grades, enroll in higher-level programs, attend school regularly, have better social skills, graduate, and go on college.

·       *Find out what’s going on at school! PTA fosters positive communication between parents and the school. Members are also eligible to vote on PTA programs and business decisions.

·       *Let your gifts and talents shine. All of us have good ideas. Please share yours!

·      *Your involvement and membership in the Peterson PTA is important to our children and our school community, so we hope you will consider volunteering where you can.  It is personal involvement that helps us create memorable opportunities and experiences for our children.

PTA Membership entitles you to one copy of the Peterson PTA Student Directory and access to the online directory with DIRECTORYSPOT.

We have two levels of membership:  Golden Paw Membership or Regular Membership

PETERSON GOLDEN PAW MEMBERSHIP

Are you tired of writing a check for each event?  Do you want to put an end to asking your child if they turned in their money? Want to write one check and forget about it? Do you want to help support our school?  If you answered "Yes", this program is for you.

Peterson Golden Paw membership is a one-time check/membership that eliminates the need to write multiple checks throughout the school year for PTA sponsored events.

PETERSON PTA REGULAR MEMBERSHIP

Peterson PTA, along with State and National PTA's, invite you to become a member of our organization!  The PTA is dedicated to providing programs and activities that directly benefit your children.  A portion of your PTA dues goes directly into the Peterson PTA budget to help provide funding for educational and extracurricular activities such as:  assemblies, field trips, after-school programs, school dances, in-school events, social activities, etc.

PTA VOLUNTEER OPTIONS

We need you to make great experiences and events for our children!  Please let us know if are interested in supporting our students as a volunteer.

WHAT IS WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)?

It is an innovative program to increase positive male role model involvement at the school. The two main goals of the program are to demonstrate the importance of education and to reduce bullying.

WHO ARE WatchDOGS?

WatchDOGS are fathers or father figures who volunteer at the school and become actively engaged with multiple students, including their own child(ren).

WHAT WILL WatchDOGS DO?

Your time spent volunteering will be meaningful to the teachers, students, and of course, yourself! Teachers may assign you tasks like read to a small group, review math facts, play an educational game, correct assignments with a student, review spelling words, or assist in a group project. You might also assist with morning bus duty. There are many different ways you can get involved.

PETERSON WatchDOGS COMMITMENT:

There are two ways to participate:

OPTION 1-Instructional volunteer opportunities are from 8:40-10:45 on either Tuesday or Thursday. You will also have an opportunity to extend your day by helping with lunch/recess supervision. *Prior arrangements must be made.

OPTION 2- You can assist with lunch and recess supervision during your child(ren)’s lunch period(s). There will be no instructional time. Please enter and re-enter the building during your child(ren)’s lunch periods only.

LUNCH AND RECESS SCHEDULE:

5th       10:45 - 11:20

4th       11:15 - 11:50

3rd       11:45 - 12:20

2nd      12:15 - 12:50

1st         12:45 - 1:20

KN        1:15 - 1:50

Please choose only one date per family. By doing so, this will allow other dads to volunteer. We will try our best to accommodate your schedule, however if there is a conflict, we will contact you.  Your volunteer day will include being with your child(ren), as well as being with other Peterson students.

Official WATCH D.O.G.S. t-shirts are available for  $10 and should be worn on the day of the event. Thank you!

For more information about this program, please visit: http://www.fathers.com/watchdogs/watch-dogs-faqs/

If you have any questions about the WATCH D.O.G.S. program or would like an opportunity to volunteer, please contact Leslie Shepherd at watchdogs.peterson@gmail.com.

Parents,  Are you looking to help Peterson School in a very simple and quick way?  Please read on.....

The PTA is grateful for the support of our parents and community so we can supplement the educational experiences of our children.

This year, the PTA is hoping to raise some additional funds to support two new initiatives:
    1.  The completion of the outdoor learning area at Peterson
    2.  The addition of a NIU family STEM night to our schedule of events

If you would like to give to support these initiatives as well as all the PTA does to supplement our children's educational experience, please click on the link to donate via Paypal.  "Paws Up for Peterson!"

Box Tops:  Peterson gets 10 cents for every label turned in.  A complete list of items can be found at www.boxtops4education.com.  Peterson earned $1,100.00 last year.  There is a collection box in every room and several collection contests through the year.  Have your child bring the ones you save each week or save them for the contests throughout the year.

Tyson Chicken:  Clip and save Project A+ labels off any participating Tyson product.  These can then be turned in to Peterson along with Box Tops and Campbell's labels.  Peterson will earn 24 cents per label.

Inkjet and toner cartridges are also collected at Peterson.  These are worth $2.00 each!
